The Library Rap

Life Long Learners

ALA (American Library Association) RUSA's Reference website

The Best Free References Web Sites Combined Index from the RUSA (Reference and User Services Association) web page located on the ALA (American Library Association website is an excellent list of various reference web sites. The layout of the website is very user friendly. Users have two options for viewing the websites contained within the list:
1. scroll through the entire list which is arranged in alphabetical order
2. click the letter of the alphabet containing the first letter of the web site title.
Since this list is included on the ALA web site teachers and librarians can use it with confidence, knowing that the information is accurate, reliable and safe for students.

These are the three web sites that I really enjoyed:

American Presidents: Life Portraits - This site contains detailed information on the lives of the various presidents of our country. It is very easy to locate biographical information on each president, as well as key events that occurred during their presidency. The information on the site was very current and already included a large amount of information regarding Barack Obama's presidency. The site includes easy use to use drop down menus for selecting any of the presidents, both past and present.

Fact Monster - The site provides an Almanac, Encyclopedia, Dictionary and Thesaurus.
Information available on the web site included sports, science, math, government and US history. This site would be a great tools for students with book report or simply
homework help. The site allows students to select their gender (boy/girl) to better match them with sites of interest.

How Stuff Works - This site is great for Science and Technology. There is tone of
information on a various topics included on this site. Some of the really great features of this site are the quiz questions, videos, podcasts, how-to's and image gallery. There are also links to other non-Science information, such as history and health.
